Worship, prayer help

Frequent worship attendance and a strong prayer life can help young women with eating disorders overcome feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness, according to a study in the Journal of Religion and Health of nearly 2,500 women aged 18 to 26. Faith communities that communicate messages such as “God made me and doesn’t make anything bad” can moderate the “body loathing” promoted by popular culture, said lead researcher Andrea Henderson of the University of South Carolina, Columbia. She and Christopher Ellison of the University of Texas, San Antonio, used data from the 2001-02 National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health.
