Pope Francis appointed Marie Collins to a church commission charged with combating clergy sex abuse of minors. Collins, abused by a Roman Catholic priest in Ireland during the 1960s, is an advocate for justice for victims of clergy pedophilia. Members of the “Commission for the Protection of Minors” also include a British psychiatrist, a German psychologist and a former prime minister of Poland. The commission will consider measures such as increasing awareness and education of child exploitation, improved screening for clergy, and criminal action against offenders.
