Mennonites listen

Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Va., declared a six-month “listening period” for students, professors and staff to discuss the school’s ban on faculty same-sex relationships. During this time, faculty won't be penalized for violating the policy. University President Loren Swartzendruber said the school has a responsibility “to engage in community discussion and discernment over issues that Mennonite congregations, indeed almost all denominations in the U.S. today, are wrestling with.” Before his presidency, two professors were fired and one resigned in protest due to the ban.
