Each year as the Lenten season rolls around, we are reminded that the Holy Land is neither holy nor only a piece of land. It is people, and distrust continues between--and within--Jews and Palestinians.
They now have their future in their hands (see elec tions, page 49). David Johnson, a pastor of our church who is the Lutheran World Federation's chief representative in Jerusalem, recently said that the future depends on both sides understanding what it means to be "a nation" rat her than "a people."
