Synod bishop censures St. Paul congregations

They face consequences for calling non-rostered people to pastoral ministry

St. Paul Area Synod Bishop Mark S. Hanson placed St. Paul-Reformation (St. Paul, Minn.) and Hosanna! (Lakeville, Minn.) Lutheran churches under "public censure and admonishment" for violating the ELCA constitution.

Hanson stopped short of removing either congregation from the ELCA roster. The synod council supported his June 12 action by votes of 11-2 and 10-2, respectively.
