ELCA supports churches in China

After a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck central China April 20, the ELCA sent $15,000 to the China Christian Council for emergency food, tents, quilts, medicine and more in the Sichuan province. ELCA companion Luzhou Church immediately responded by mobilizing pastoral staff, its Luzhou Gospel Hospital personnel and rescue dogs. More than 200 people died in the earthquake and its aftershocks, which injured more than 11,800 others and destroyed thousands of homes. Donations may be made to Lutheran Disaster Response, 39330 Treasury Center, Chicago, IL 60694-9300; 800-638-3522; www.elca.org/giving.
