Not a diocese

When the Episcopal Church's Diocese of South Carolina seceded in 2012 over debates including sexuality and orthodoxy, it also took its name. According to a state judge, only the group that left can use the name Diocese of South Carolina. Now the 19 parishes and six worship groups choosing to remain in the national church body have a provisional bishop, Charles Glenn von Rosenburg, and a new name: The Episcopal Church in South Carolina. Rosenburg, a retired bishop of the Diocese of East Tennessee, asked members for tolerance and understanding during the transition.
