Hillary and 1,000 Days

David Beckmann, an ELCA pastor and president of Bread for the World, helped deliver a petition with 5,000 signatures thanking Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her work with 1,000 Days, an international movement to improve maternal and child nutrition.

The movement's name comes from the 1,000 days between pregnancy and age 2 — days during which improper nutrition can cause a lifetime of irreversible challenges.

"We commend Secretary Clinton for making it her duty to highlight the devastating impacts of malnutrition during this critical period and show the world that these issues are preventable," Beckmann said.
