Lutheran support for scholar

After the Vatican denounced Margaret Foley's scholarly work, 75 Lutheran women scholars told the Roman Catholic theologian in an open letter that her work is "warmly valued."

They said the Vatican's ban on use of Foley's Just Love: A Framework for Christian Sexual Ethics (Continuum, 2005), "misrepresents the intent of your book, ignores the ethical conversation you are attempting to engage and suggests that the fruits of scholarship, teaching and moral deliberation should be merely a replication of ecclesiastical decree." Foley is a past president of the Society of Christian Ethics and the Catholic Theological Society of America.
