The Lutheran World Federation appealed to the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights to establish an office in Honduras and to strengthen its presence throughout Central America.
The action was announced at the LWF's gathering June15-20 in Bogota, Colombia. Members also discussed the need to end violence in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, and called for creation of an ecumenical accompaniment program to protect human rights defenders, especially in Guatemala and Honduras.
