In summer 1962, Turu and Iramba children enjoy Sunday school or vacation Bible school classes near Singida [Tanzania] Lutheran Church.

It's not certain whether the children are holding tablets, song sheets or Bible pictures mounted on cardboard, but it could have been any of these, said retired ELCA missionary June Nyblade.

"The children loved to do plays and songs," she told The Lutheran. "Most festival services, Christmas and Easter particularly, would have the children performing a play or skit."
