Protestant churches face three main challenges, said Margot Kassmann, former head of the Protestant Church of Germany and ambassador for the 500th anniversary in 2017 of the Reformation.
Churches must understand how ecumenism affects dealing with the Reformation, address the "terrible legacy" of Martin Luther's anti-Semitic remarks, and examine their role in an increasingly secular society, she said.
