Richard Fischer, a French Lutheran pastor, asked Europe's Christians to reflect on the 47-country Council of Europe's Jan. 25 resolution condemning euthanasia.
Fischer, executive secretary of the church and society commission of the Conference of European Churches, said people should "agree on the same definitions" and not "confuse euthanasia and assisted suicide with other procedures."
Forms of euthanasia are legal in the Netherlands and Belgium, while assisted suicide is permitted in Switzerland and palliative care that induces death is allowed in France.
