Elected: Martin D. Wells, 50, as bishop of the Eastern Washington-Idaho Synod, effective Oct. 1.
When: June 5, on the fourth ballot, 234-102 over Mark J. Nelson, assistant to the bishop.
Bio: Served as pastor of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Bellingham, Wash.; campus pastor of Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Wash.; and director of Holden Village, Lake Chelan, Wash. Graduate of the University of Denver; the University of Puget Sound Law School, Tacoma; and Pacific Lutheran Seminary, Berkeley, Calif.
Replaces: Robert M. Keller, who retires Oct. 1.
