Worried in Liberia

Sumoward E. Harris, bishop of the Lutheran Church in Liberia, called for calm after a Nov. 8 presidential runoff in which 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was the only candidate.

Harris said he and other leaders are asking the opposition party, Congress for Democratic Change, which boycotted the runoff, to "join in the reconciliation process."

Harris is concerned that the standoff could trigger renewed violence after the country's bloody civil war (1989-2003).
