Worship attendance at some of Alabama's Roman Catholic congregations dropped following enactment of a state immigration law, wrote Scott Alessi Nov. 17 in a blog posting ("Immigration crackdown leads to empty pews") at U.S. Catholic.
Paul Zoghby, a priest in Foley, Ala., said his parish has lost 20 percent of its members. More than half of U.S. Roman Catholics age 25 and under are of Hispanic or Latino descent, according to demographics from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
