When the last ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans rallied young people to service, the youth of First Lutheran Church, Lincoln, Neb., came home determined to make a difference in their community, said Aaron Erdley, one of the pastors.
They realized that Lincoln, like other cities, has issues of hunger, poverty and homelessness. When they toured a local mission they noticed a children's center in a large, rundown warehouse.
After two years of planning, designing, cleaning and building, they made it a fun and safe place for the 50 to 70 children who live there, raising $6,000 in the process.
