The Kerala, India-based Mar Thoma Church celebrated 175 years since it broke from the Orthodox fold.
The 1 million-member Mar Thoma or "church of St. Thomas" traces its roots to Thomas, the apostle who is said to have traveled to Kerala in A.D. 52 with Middle Eastern spice merchants.
Christians make up 20 percent of the state of Kerala's 33 million people.
