Habiba Ibrahim Ali, 20, walks with her child through a refugee camp in Dadaab, Kenya, that is managed by the Lutheran World Federation.
Her family is among 500,000 Somalians seeking refuge during a severe drought that affects more than 11 million people throughout Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.
The ELCA sent $400,000 to the region in July to help the LWF provide aid in Turkana and Dadaab, Kenya, and to help the Ethiopian Evangelical [Lutheran] Church Mekane Yesus, an ELCA partner, provide relief in Ethiopia.
To give, visit the ELCA website, call 800-638-3522, or send checks (write "Horn of Africa Drought" on the memo line) to ELCA Disaster Response, 39330 Treasury Center, Chicago, IL 60694-9300.
