Rescuing bread

Congregation stocks food pantry with franchise's leftovers

St. Michael Lutheran Church, Roseville, Minn., feeds the hungry by using what would otherwise be thrown away.

Three nights each week, members go to Panera Bread at closing time to collect leftover bread, bagels and rolls.

Hundreds of pounds of baked goods are put to use each week that would otherwise be tossed out.
